The Return of Abducted Children: Mykola Kuleba Speaks in the Canadian Senate in Support of Ukrainian Families
Save Ukraine founder Mykola Kuleba spoke in the Canadian Senate on the issue of returning abducted Ukrainian children and securing their future.
The meeting, moderated by Senator Stanley Kutcher, included members of the Canadian Parliament, representatives of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress, CANADEM, and Ukrainian interns currently training in the Canadian Parliament. The participants discussed the difficulties encountered in returning children and the need to hold those responsible for their abduction and forced assimilation accountable.
Mykola Kuleba spoke about Save Ukraine’s methods for collecting evidence of children’s indoctrination for use in future international tribunal proceedings and the International Criminal Court. The discussion in Canada was particularly significant, as Canadians play a leading role in developing the evidentiary base for various ICC cases and are vital partners in this mission.
The senators highlighted the potential for collaboration with Canadian universities, specifically Toronto Metropolitan University. It would allow us to engage in music and play therapy experts for our children’s rehabilitation programs. Our partners supported our community-based approach, and we discussed methods for community needs assessments upon which we build our programs.
“This meeting has given me confidence that our cause resonates with and is well understood in Canada,” noted the head of the Foundation at the end of the event, expressing gratitude to Canadian partners for their readiness to support Ukrainian children and work together to protect their future.
