Without pressure or judgment: How we help young people value themselves and their boundaries
How do you talk to teenagers who have gone through difficult experiences about human rights and personal boundaries—without turning it into a boring lecture? At Save Ukraine, we know the answer: through sincerity, play, and the freedom to simply be yourself.
Recently, we held an informal session for teenagers living in our social shelter. It was a warm, welcoming space where everyone could open up at their own pace and share only what they felt comfortable with. We intentionally moved away from formal formats, replacing them with an association game and shared meals to break the ice and build trust.
Thanks to modern approaches and interactive activities, even the shyest participants found the courage to speak up. Teenagers talked about what truly matters to them—making choices in difficult circumstances, understanding personal boundaries, and learning how to protect them.
For young people living in a dormitory, the ability to say “no,” to understand their values, and to take responsibility for their choices is not only a step toward healing—it is a strong foundation for building an independent, adult life.
These sessions help teenagers see that their experiences are not a burden, but a journey that makes them stronger. We continue to refine our approaches so that every child feels that their voice matters.
We are grateful to our partners Aktion Deutschland Hilft and Malteser International for supporting these changes. You help us do more than provide shelter—you help us raise free and confident individuals.
Together, we are restoring not only safety, but also a sense of self-belief in every child.
