Safe Expressions: Art Therapy, Safety, and Advocacy for Children
The Save Ukraine project “Safe Expressions: An Art Therapy and Awareness Program” has come to a close, having helped hundreds of children and adults recover from the traumas of war. Over the course of a year, we focused on three key areas:
Stabilization
At our Hope and Healing Centers, we offered both individual and group art therapy sessions. Painting, sculpting, and storytelling helped children and adults process their emotions, regain a sense of control, and feel safe again.
During the project, more than 500 people received support, and over 1,300 art therapy sessions were held.
Safety
Another critical focus was teaching adults how to protect children from violence. More than 1,300 psychologists, educators, and parents took part in trainings on the basics of nonviolent communication and how to respond to cases of sexual violence.
Advocacy
To raise public awareness about the impact of war on children, we organized an art exhibition attended by over 5,000 visitors. Every piece on display told the story of a child who had endured loss, pain, and fear — yet found a way to speak about it through art.
This project was made possible thanks to the support of our partners and once again proved that even in times of war, children must have safe spaces for recovery, self-expression, and a return to life.
📌 Save Ukraine continues its mission to rescue children and help them find the strength to live and thrive in a free Ukraine.
