Excursion to the Museum of St. Sophia of Kyiv
Our kids from the ‘Hope and Healing’ center in Gatne had an incredible time exploring one of Ukraine’s cultural treasures – the Sophia Kyivska Museum.
Throughout the tour, both children and adults had the opportunity to delve into the rich cultural heritage of our country, marveling at the grandeur and beauty of ancient architecture and art. They began by visiting the St. Cyril’s Monastery, which left a lasting impression with its mosaics and frescoes. Intriguing facts unveiled that these wall paintings date back to ancient times, with churches in Kyivan Rus adopting this technique in the 12th-13th centuries. One graffiti even preserved a message about Yaroslav the Wise.
The kids were enthralled by the metropolitan’s residence and the ‘Zaborovsky Gate,’ a brilliant example of Ukrainian Baroque. However, the highlight for our youngsters was ascending the bell tower of St. Sophia’s Cathedral. From there, they relished an incredible view of Bogdan Khmelnitsky Square, historic buildings, and the domes of St. Michael’s Golden-Domed Monastery.
Today, it’s essential to delve into and appreciate Ukraine’s history to safeguard it for future generations. We express gratitude to everyone contributing to bringing education and the joy of discovery into the lives of our young ones. The future of our country hinges on the respect and love that children have for their homeland.
